Gemstone Dragon Information
Size: Gemstone dragons grow to the size of a large draft horse.
Diet: These creatures are omnivorousness and will eat just about anything. In the wild these dragons form small bangs to hunt larger prey items. Due to an unusual digestive system they will also ingest minerals in keeping with their breed. The minerals help to strengthen their bones and allow their horns to grow throughout their lives.
Coloration and Markings: They say no two Gemstone dragons are alike. Their markings and colors are always in keeping with the minerals they ingest. As a Gemstone dragon ages its horns and claws continue to grow. For many who use these dragons as mounts its a constant issue trying to keep their shoulder horns trimmed. Nothing is more uncomfortable than being stabbed in the chest while ridding.
Intelligence: These creatures posses an animal intelligence and unlike more advanced species of dragons do not have the ability to speak. They are smart and can be easily trained. Gemstone dragons are a favorite mount for knights, nobility and deities alike. They are a long lived creature and often the same dragon will be passed from father to son. They are swift agile hunters showing a keen understanding of tactics and the ability to react quickly to changing situations.
Behavior: Gemstone Dragons are social animals, even in the wild they seek out others of their kind. However they will only mate or form bands with dragons of their own breed. Meaning an Emerald Gemstone Dragon will only mate or band with other Emerald Gemstone Dragons. Humans and gods who favor these creatures for mounts do so because of their loyalty and strength.
Magic: Gemstone dragons possess little in the way of magic and are flightless. But being grounded doesn't seem to hinder them in the slightest. Using what little magic they posses they can leap great distances, run for hundreds of miles without tiring and can teleport themselves short distances. They usually use this ability to quickly outmaneuver prey by teleporting directly in front of them.
